I had the pleasure of going into Birdhouse this weekend. What struck me first was how immediately welcoming the atmosphere was. I was greeted excitedly by Mae Mae. There were so many great books available. When I asked for one they didn’t have she offered to order for me. She was the sweetest with the most welcoming spirit. I am so happy to have found this place!

Wonderful local bookstore with a lovely atmosphere and great selection. I felt welcomed as soon as I walked on the door and the staff were friendly and helpful. They have a great selection of reads, a lot of featured options to help you pick your next read and are happy to recommend some great options if you're having trouble finding what you want. They have a great children's section too and my daughter loved picking out a new story. Add in the local arts and crafts they have on offer and there's really something for everyone. Really looking forward to frequent repeat visits!

Wow! Stepping into Birdhouse Books and Gifts for the first time today was pure magic. From the moment I walked in, I felt the warmth and intentionality of this special space. Abby, the owner, greeted me with such openness and kindness—it’s clear she’s poured her heart into creating something truly unique. One of the first things that caught my eye was the stunning mural in the kids’ section, featuring Texas wildflowers and birds—a perfect nod to our local beauty. And then there’s Buddy, the bear who welcomes little ones with open arms (and is just the right size for hugs). It’s details like these that make Birdhouse so memorable. The book selection is incredible—diverse, thoughtful, and filled with authors and perspectives that reflect so many voices. You can feel the care that’s gone into curating every shelf. And yes, there are couches! Two of them, in fact, because every great bookstore needs a cozy spot to sit with a good book. Abby is full of fantastic recommendations for readers of all ages, and if there’s a book you’re looking for that’s not in stock, she’ll happily order it for you on the spot. And here’s a little tip—if Abby’s there when you visit, be sure to ask her about why she opened the store. It’s such an inspiring story, and we’re so lucky to have her dream come to life right here in Austin. Birdhouse Books and Gifts is more than a bookstore—it’s a community hub, a cozy escape, and a testament to the power of local, female, veteran-owned businesses. I can’t recommend it enough. Hidden gem on Burnet!! Drop by this local bookshop for a cozy atmosphere and great selection of books. They have children's, non-fiction, fiction, fantasy + some gifts & puzzles! Check out their site for events too like Book Clubs, Children's Story Hour, and Meet-ups. Love supporting shops like this in Austin! Tip: Lots of parking! You'll find it among the blue awnings just north of HEB!

I found a great new favorite Independent bookstore! It has everything you could want - excellent selection of books and great gifts. Also great selection of t-shirts-especially for book lovers. Story time for the little ones too. You must make time to see this new Austin treasure.
