I’m new to the Richmond area, and wanted to improve my meditation practice after having not participated in a formal zazen session in many years. Being a beginner at something is an intimidating experience. However, Judy, who helped lead the Richmond Zen Sunday morning 9:00-10:30am session, was immediately very helpful and very kind as soon as I walked in. Everyone seemed very sincere and eager to help. My advice for the newcomer: Come early. Thank you for a nice experience.

The Richmond Zen Group must be so satisfied with itself having succeeded in eliminating me after systemically alienating me, meeting after meeting over the course of several months. I credit myself with two things: I will never return and at least I did not donate more than one single dollar to them.

Ekoji is a very welcoming place. After years of quick meditations and the end of yoga classes, I wanted to learn more about the practice of meditation. Before your first time visiting, you’ll get a quick introduction on how to sit properly and comfortably, bowing when entering the circle, and a few other bits of info. There’s an ease and positivity of the group I’ve now visited twice. I know next to nothing about Buddhism and have felt very welcomed.

The energy. This was the first indicator that I was in a spiritually charged positive environment around true and genuine souls, was the energy. Everyone is welcome here and made to feel welcome. Whether you're curious about the Buddhist experience or a regular practitioner, Emoji Buddhist Sangha is a true gem.

I have been going for quite a while. I love how accepting and kind everyone is. I feel at home and at peace when I am there. There are different rooms for different groups. They welcome anyone and everyone. I am so glad that I found Ekoji, I have learned so much and have gained many friends.
