The BEST button selection!!!! For the thrift girlies who need to restore vintage pieces with missing buttons, this place is essential. The even carry very large/statement buttons for coats.

While visiting San Diego, I always like to check out thrift shops, and as a sewist, Material Happiness was a perfect stop. The prices were incredibly reasonable, and the selection was impressive - especially the quilting cottons. Everything was beautifully organized and thoughtfully curated, which made it such a pleasure to browse. The notions selection was also fantastic. I’m always on the hunt for vintage rickrack, and I found so much of it here at very affordable prices. I also picked up several satin bindings for baby blankets, and they were only about a dollar each - such a great find. The owner was lovely and welcoming, and even shared some tips on other places to check out. Overall, it was just a really great shopping experience. Highly recommend if you sew, quilt, or love a well-curated creative thrift shop.

Excellent little craft shop with a good mix of new and secondhand ❤️❤️❤️. Lots of goodies stashed here. The owner is very nice and friendly as well . Glad to have access to such a neat shop. Update: Ive been coming here since it was back at the old location and it's just the best little shop! I love coming here and browsing! They carry new books on mending and sewing, and new supplies for mending such as mending/darning thread, darning eggs, sashiko thread and tools, elastic, some cotton webbing, some organic thread (!), and of course fabric (both new and secondhand). The new fabric is often from Japan (hokkoh, kokka, nani iro!!!). It's truly a dream store and I am so happy whenever I go in there.
