This place sucks. The trail guide wasn't very helpful and he had a very know it all and whatever attitude.

Used to come here & really enjoyed the lessons. $400+ / month. For 4 lessons total. Lasts 1 month. I'd love to understand why it's such a steep price & for "bronze". The tier system sure is something. Not sure who you think is able to afford steep prices. Why not offer more options, affordable options perhaps? In this current economy * I understand businesses esp animal upkeep can be expensive.

We had a great experience here. The route down to the beach was breath taking. The horses were sweet and the guide knowledgeable. Highly recommend.

Our experience was the complete opposite of suspicious glowing reviews here! Within minutes, it was clear this was not the polished, welcoming operation described online. The trail had visible dog waste in stretches. The horses repeatedly stopped to eat and drifted off path. Instead of feeling guided and safe, we felt like we were managing chaos. What made it worse was the shift in tone once it was clear my boyfriend and I are a same sex couple. The warmth disappeared. Responses became clipped. Eye contact dropped. Nothing explicitly hostile was said, but the difference was unmistakable. You know when you are being treated differently. Reading through some of the five star reviews, the language feels strangely polished and detached from what we experienced. All I can say is that what happened to us did not match that narrative at all. We showed up excited for a peaceful coastal ride. We left feeling uncomfortable and unwelcome.

I'm an experienced equestrian and horse owner who brought my non-horsey partner here for what I hoped would be a pleasant trail ride. Unfortunately, this was the worst trail riding experience I ever had in my life. I was assigned an extremely barn-sour, headstrong horse who constantly pushed ahead of the group despite my efforts to keep him behind the guide. I could not keep him behind the guide without fighting with him constantly. While attempting to bypass other riders, he even tripped on foliage and fell sideways, throwing me off and landing ON TOP of my leg. I was unable to walk properly for several days. The staff took no accountability for the incident and blamed me instead. Beyond my own experience, I observed troubling welfare concerns. The barn was using a horse over thirty years old for multiple rides within the same day--those trails are quite hilly and personally, I would never, in good conscience, force a horse that old to be ridden on those trails hours and hours a day. Beyond that, my assigned horse was also extremely cinchy and even tried to bite me when my hand went near the cinch—a clear sign of pain that should have been addressed before putting riders on him. As someone with a lifetime of riding experience, I believe this operation needs significant improvements in both horse welfare and training protocols. I brought my partner here hoping to share my love of horses with them, but instead gave them a dangerous and stressful introduction to riding. There are many reputable trail barns in the Bay Area that prioritize both rider safety and horse welfare. Based on this experience, I cannot recommend Ocean View Stables. I am not at all surprised at the recent pattern of negative reviews. _______________________________________________________________ ***RESPONSE TO THE OWNERS:*** 1. Our guide Beau specifically told us the dun mare my partner rode (I believe her name was Rose or Rosie) was in her thirties. I don't believe she had any incentive to lie, so it seems that you are lying now to save face. 2. Chief was the horse assigned to me, the one that was extremely headstrong and cinchy. This is your horse--I highly doubt that you did not know about these issues prior. 3. We had already reported these issues to you guys and asked for a refund, which you refused, and you shifted the blame to the customer instead. Funny that you are only open to further conversation after receiving a bad review. I would never have written this if it were resolved prior. Do better.
