I recently went to pick up what I thought was a birthday cake for a dog—yes, a pet treat—and ended up with one of the most shockingly poor customer service experiences I’ve had in years. From the moment I walked in, a dog ran up barking—no issue there, I like dogs—but the employee behind the counter seemed completely unprepared and startled by my arrival. I explained I was there to pick up a cake—well, a dog’s birthday treat—and she immediately questioned if I was from DoorDash. I wasn’t, and I showed her my confirmation email. She rudely insisted it was a DoorDash order—completely false; the confirmation said nothing like that. After I showed her the email again, she dropped the bag on the counter instead of handing it to me politely. When I asked for her name, she said it was “Lisa”—if that’s even her real name. As a business owner with over fifteen years of experience, I was not just disappointed; I was truly appalled. This level of unprofessionalism is unacceptable. In short, I was picking up a treat for a pet, and instead of a simple, courteous handoff, I got a heavy dose of rudeness. Let this be a call for improvement, because no customer—human or otherwise—should be treated this way.
