What a gem in Union Square! Caught Into The Woods at SF Playhouse and was blown away by the whole experience. The intimate setting makes you feel like you’re part of the show. The production quality was top-notch, and you could really appreciate the talent of the cast in such a close space. The venue itself has this cool, classic theater vibe with modern touches. Staff was friendly and the whole operation runs smoothly. If you’re looking for quality theater without the huge auditorium feel, this is your spot. Already planning my next visit.

Into the woods was presented very well. The actors sang great and the stage set was well done. The building is very old. They need more bathrooms, I don't like the small shared bathroom (all gender) that was the ladies room. I recommend going to the bathroom before you get here.

Our seats was in the rear of the balcony and I couldn’t see about 30% of the time. It was very difficult to hear about half the time. The play was Noises Off and was reported to be quite the comedy. But if you can’t hear or see well it’s not so funny. If you can’t get seats in the first 2 or 3 rows of the balcony, don’t sit in the balcony. The actors really were great from what I could see. It was VERY long. Would have been nice to have some explanation of the format of this play in the program. Wikipedia was a big help after the fact.

The SF Playhouse is located within a hotel around Union Square in SF. Not too hard to locate, you go in past the lobby and up the stairs or take the elevator to the 2nd floor. I always purchase my tickets online. I’ve sat lower and more recently for Noises Off sat in the Orchestra. It’s a little bit tight but an overall good view. The plays I’ve seen there are great, comfortable, and you can hear well. They have a bar in the lobby and gender neutral restrooms. There’s some street parking surrounding and there are also parking garages. Would recommend catching a show here if you’re in the area!

This is a wonderful classic theater with old charm resignating throughout the building. It has spacious seating and a nice bar area for drinks and snacks. The only thing I would need to get accustomed to are all gender restrooms. But these are the times we live in... I would definitely attend other shows!
