I wish I could give this store six stars. I’m visiting Edmonton from Australia and had The Book Boudoir on my list to check out, and I’m so glad I did. The store is absolutely STUNNING, and it’s so well stocked. The staff member working was lovely and so friendly. The vibe is, actually, immaculate. It’s cosy, warm, inviting, and is everything you could want in a romance bookstore. I’m so sad not to have anything like this at home and I already can’t wait to come back. Their events were all booked out but they all looked stellar too. I’ll plan better next time!

Love watching indie shops bloom. It's amazing to see how it's grown from smaller to bigger business. Always helpful lovely staff to chat books. One never knows what they'll have new in store, making each visit a delightful surprise.

This bookstore is such a cute and cozy little gem. From the moment you walk in, it feels warm and inviting, with a calm atmosphere that makes you want to slow down and stay awhile. The shelves are thoughtfully arranged, and every corner feels charming and full of personality. The selection of books is wonderful, with a nice mix of popular reads, hidden gems, and unique finds you do not always see in bigger stores. It is easy to lose track of time browsing, and the overall vibe makes reading feel extra special. Everything is clean, well organized, and clearly curated with care.

I want to start off by saying I fully support small businesses. 10 times out of 10 I would rather support a small business than a corporation. I will not be supporting the Book Boudoir going forward. I received 2 books purchased from them for my birthday that, unfortunately, I already had. My friend didn’t get a receipt, but the books still had the Book Boudoir branded price tags on the back, and I was looking to exchange them for 2 new books rather than getting a refund. The books sat untouched in a gift bag in the living room of my house for a few days before I was able to make it out to do the exchange. The girls at the front desk were very kind, checked with the manager on duty, and got the go ahead for the exchange, so I started browsing. Less than 5 minutes later one of the girls approached me, in front of the other customers, and told me that the manager had changed her mind, and would no longer be accepting the return. The reason given was that the pages were yellowed, and there were scuff marks (I’ve attached photos of the books). I couldn’t tell what they were talking about beyond maybe one small mark on one of the books, but I was extremely embarrassed that I wasn’t pulled to the side by the manager herself to discuss the issue, and rather than take out my frustration on the employees, I took the books and left. To my eyes, these books look in pristine condition, and the unprofessionalism shown by the manager in accepting the exchange, and then changing her mind in less than five minutes, all without speaking directly to me, is deeply concerning. I am appalled that the hundreds of dollars I have spent here and the loyalty I have shown to this establishment meant nothing Edit: your reply contains the third different story about why I was denied my return. This much backtracking and story-changing is absolutely insane to me, and completely unprofessional and unacceptable. As to the “did not meet our like-new conditions,” I would be happy to post more photos of the books in question if you would point out where the problems are. The fact that you are not addressing the way your manager cleared the exchange, then turned around on her decisions speaks volumes, as does the fact that you deleted your reply. I have attached said reply in the photos so anyone who wishes to spend money here can be made aware of how you treat your customers.
