The setting is absolutely beautiful — peaceful vineyards framed by the mountain and golden light. Their Malbec and Syrah are standouts: smooth, rich, and full of character. You can tell there’s real craftsmanship in every pour. Mel, the proprietor, is amazing — warm, welcoming, and so kind. You instantly feel like family when you arrive. The whole staff is friendly and relaxed, creating that wonderful mix of local charm and destination-worthy hospitality. It’s dog- and kid-friendly, and you’re welcome to bring your own food, which makes it perfect for picnics. Locals come here regularly, and visitors quickly see why — it’s the kind of place where you want to linger and watch the sunset with another glass in hand. If you’re anywhere near Julian, don’t miss this spot. Volcan Mountain Winery captures everything great about small-town California wine country.

Today's wine tasting was a great surprise! I'm not much of a wine drinker, but I really enjoyed the wines and found myself craving a steak to go with them. It was the perfect, relaxing start to the weekend. Thank you!

My husband & I don't drink wine but we decided to stop because it looked so nice. We spoke to Mel & she suggested 2 wines that we enjoyed enough to have more than 1 glass. Mel was super friendly, knowledgeable & we would come back again for sure. It is a very nice place to stroll around or sit & enjoy the view

First time visit on a Thursday early October 2018. I am not we are not sophisticated palates. This is a small private winery with a friendly dispostion. Melanie (Mel) the host was engaging, upbeat, and generous with the discounts. We did the (6) glass wine tasting. Melanie the host started us off with some "whites.". The wine tasting was actually somewhat tailored to my individual likes. I noted at the beginning I am "partial" to cherry, blackberry, and fruit notes as well as apricot. Also my preference for more sweetness and less dryness. I very much/we enjoyed the wines and would definitely buy their product. For a more private setting and a more personal experience, I highly recommend stopping by and tasting their offerings. You can easily make it a day trip by hiking in the nearby (1/4 mile) Volcan Mountain trails, dinner, and visiting the local bakery. The experience itself rates in the range of (4.4-4.8). The wines were great to us. Cheers!
