I came in today wanting to try Viva Brew and create content. Unfortunately, I wasn’t aware that they are only open on Thursdays. I met the owner of this beautiful book store. Who was very nice to tell me Vivas schedule and give me recommendations. His welcoming spirit definitely sparked interest to come on a chill Thursday afternoon to read a book while trying the matcha drinks. A small encounter definitely goes a long way. I will be coming soon:)

Very cute little bookshop with ample seating and lots of room to walk around in and a good selection of each genre.

It's no wonder that Whose Books is one of the many foundational blocks that make up why Oak Cliff the vibrant and community-centric area that it is. Independent bookstores are often overlooked and underexposed compared to the big-box stores, which is a travesty in my opinion, as they play a pivotal role in neighborhood outreach, allow for the support of localized commerce, and create a sense of overall connection. This was my first visit and my experience there has left a lasting impression that gives me a sense of great pride that I get to call myself an Oak Cliff resident. From the moment I stepped in, I was greeted by Sean, who was incredibly kind and welcoming to me as a newcomer. We engaged in wonderful conversation while I browsed, and I was given a personal list of recommendations to add to my ever growing TBR ("to be read") list - thanks Sean! What Claudia and John have created is an impactful and inclusive space that centers on not only giving back to the community, encouraging mutual connection and open discussion, but giving all levels of bookish people a place to feel seen, heard, safe, and most importantly, valid as exactly who they are. I wish nothing but the best and continued success for this business and their advocacy. They truly are a bookstore catered to the neighborhood, whether you are a local or just passing through. Bravo!
