I’m so glad I happened to be walking by Zen Dental and went in to check it out when I was searching for a new dentist. I had had a couple unpleasant dentist experiences with high-pressure salesman-like dentists, and another who just did expensive, sloppy work. I’ve had really excellent, dental-health-forward experiences with Dr. Pokhrel and the entire staff. The Zen part isn’t just the heated lavender eye mask [!] and massage chair [!!!] during the procedures, it’s the whole vibe. Every process is discussed with me thoroughly beforehand, regarding both the procedure and the cost. Their technology game is top notch: they use a lot of photography to show me exactly what’s going on with my teeth and the suggested plan. Dr. Pokhrel, in a short amount of time, has made an effort to get to know me and connect. It’s all very reassuring. And she’s kind to her attending hygienists, which is not a given in my experience, and important to me. The work I’ve had done—cleanings, two fillings, a crown replacement, and gum disease treatment—have all been painless, thorough, and unproblematic. Going to the dentist is no longer something I dread.

This was my first visit to Zen and I got thrilled! The ambiance and the service are great and relaxing, Dr. Carpenter did the oral exam and explained to me all I need in a clear way, and Min did the cleaning so smooth , and the chair was massaging me in the meantime! All great! Today I came back for cavity filling, and I give 5 stars to Dr. Carpenter, and I loved the tool she used to keep my mouth open, it’s soft and comfortable to keep your mouth open and get rid of saliva

I was looking for a dental studio that felt modern and up to date, but also clean and sanitary and Zen Dental turned out to be a good choice. The neighborhood is not the nicest but it’s a short walk from the Muni, so it’s pretty easy to get to. The welcome area is nicely put together, and the space overall feels modern and well-maintained. Their equipment seems very modern and they were able to troubleshoot an issue I had from some previous dental work. They showed me clear pictures to explain what had gone wrong, which I appreciated. The filling work itself was careful and detailed and they were responsive to any preferences I had during the appointment. I was also checked in with regularly to make sure I was doing OK throughout the process. I received a quote in advance, so there were no surprises with billing. Overall, a professional and smooth experience.

By far the best dental experience I’ve ever had. Love Dr Carpenter and the entire staff. Plus all the nice little things they have, like massage chairs and warm eye masks make it actually enjoyable to visit. Highly recommend!!
